Located in the backyard of a house in East Austin, this small office creates a much-needed work from home space for a growing family. The young couple both work remotely and outgrew their 850 square foot home as their family expanded. The client’s budget constraints informed the scale of the project, which was intentionally limited to 200 square feet to avoid permitting process and cost. The resulting structure is a small, mobile office that plays with the typology of a backyard shed through a split shed roof. The formal quality creates a delightful object in the yard. Three carefully placed windows, with views to the sky, trees, and the yard, connect the interior to its site.
